Seeking Employment With The Help Of A Temp Agency

Being qualified by education and experience does not always guarantee that you will get a job right away, so it makes good sense to sign on with a temp agency while you are waiting for the dream job. You will be working, getting paid, and getting experience you might not get otherwise.

It is always nice to get paid. This is the reason most people work, after all. Being idle for months while you send out resumes will probably get you into debt, as you use credit cards for daily expenses. It also can be depressing and isolating. It is much smarter to get out in the world with the temporary assignments from an employment agency.

The employment agency that is seeking to fill white-collar jobs may require you to take some tests to see if you meet the minimum requirements in typing speed and computer knowledge. However, there are agencies who hire for construction companies, restaurants, agricultural businesses, and things like courier service, warehouse workers, and delivery people.

The simple fact of working will show more initiative to a future employer than if you stay idle while looking for the ideal job. Although some recruiters do not place much reliance on temporary experience, the act of using certain office software or working for a roofing company for three months will be something you can point to in an interview.

When you accept a temporary opening at a company, you may well be offered a permanent job with the business that has come to value your skills. Many individuals get their foot on the ladder through temporary work and keep right on going to a successful career. It is a good way to enter a company that is not even advertising for permanent employees.

You also may learn new skills and get valuable experience in the workplace, which looks good on a resume otherwise showing only school credits.

One of the main drawbacks is not getting benefits, such as retirement plans and health care. This will not matter if you are covered by a spouse's health plan, or if you have a saving program for those rainy days of senior citizen status or illness. Since you will be an employee of the agency, in most cases, they will handle withholding of social security and taxes in the normal manner.

There are some HR Consulting agencies that require their workers to perform as independent contractors, but this is not usual. You will be an employee of the agency, not the company where you will be placed. Placement agencies do not offer any kind of benefits or guarantees of employment.

Temp agencies match businesses with the workers they need and job seekers with employers. For both, they perform a valuable service.
